As a business owner, a big part of your job is about making decisions. This can be overwhelming and stressful at times.
More often than not, I notice that my clients get stuck fixating on a particular issue, and they spend too much time going back-and-forth, feeling no less uncertain of the decision they should make.
When this happens, my advice is to lean on a framework.
Here’s a decision-making model to help you think objectively and make decisions quickly:
B.R.A.I.N.

But, whether in business (or in your personal life), before acting too fast, remember that there are two types of situations:
1.Leaky Roof
Not doing anything is not an option. You need to act immediately.
2.Muddy Water
You don’t need to act on it immediately. Allow things time to settle so that you can begin to see the clearer picture.
When it comes to decision-making, ask yourself if it’s a leaky roof or a muddy water situation; do you need to respond immediately, or can the decision wait?
Sometimes, you might need to rely on gathering more relevant information, or you might need to seek input from trusted advisors. This highlights the importance of businesses investing in a data-driven approach to enable proactive, accurate and timely decision-making.
In addition to this, business owners can cultivate a culture of decisive action and sound decision-making. By empowering employees at all levels to make decisions within their areas of expertise, and providing them with the right information and tools they need to do so effectively, they can avoid the fate of the indecisive donkey and chart a course toward success, innovation and growth. This means allowing your workforce to embrace risk and take action, even in the face of uncertainty. It requires prioritising clarity over perfection and learning to make informed decisions swiftly.
